Madera College Student-Athlete Presents at SCCCD Board of Trustees
Yasmin MIranda (Women's Soccer) spoke at the October SCCCD Board of Trustees meeting which was held at Madera Community College.
Yasmin Miranda, a standout student-athlete from Madera Community College recently shared her experiences from a transformative 10-week summer internship with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) during the SCCCD Board of Trustees meeting on October 1, 2024.
During her internship in Washington, D.C., Miranda delved into various aspects of agriculture and engaged with key figures in the field. She specifically talked about her work with the VP of the United Farm Workers. She had the opportunity to participate in the writing of a resolution regarding the challenges faced by senior agricultural workers. Her internship has led to her working for the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.
Yasmin, who is a participant in the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), praised President Reyna for his support of the program, which is designed to assist students from migrant and seasonal farm-working backgrounds and who helped her apply for this internship.
The Board of Trustees commended Yasmin Miranda for her achievements and reiterated their support for programs like CAMP that empower students from diverse backgrounds. As Madera Community College continues to foster such initiatives, students like Yasmin Miranda are proving that with the right support, they can lead meaningful change in their communities and beyond.
